But finding ups and downs occurred in the Western Civilization and how important this ups and downs is, are problems that can be a subject for research. Besides, in the discussion of the scientific and social developments in the human history, usually three periods are considered as criterions, that are Hellenic Ages, Middle Ages, and New Age; but this historical division includes mostly the scientific and social history of Europe and the West. This article discusses scientifically how to consider certain periods for the Islamic Civilization as well as its ups and downs during five great historical changes from various points of view. Two of these five periods studied in this article are the decadence and three of them are the exaltation of the Islamic civilization. Now we are in the third period of exaltation and the fifth step of development of the Islamic civilization. It can be a multilateral critical and comparative look at the history and development of the Islamic Civilization as compared with those of the Western Civilization. تمدن اسلامی از موضوعات مهمی است که نه‌فقط به هویت جهان اسلام بازمی‌گردد، بلکه در زمانه‌ای که تمدن غرب خود را بی‌رقیب دیده است، می‌تواند در هویت‌یابی دنیای اسلام بسیار مؤثر باشد؛ اما این‌که این تمدن چه فراز و فرودهایی را طی کرده است و این فراز و فرودها با تمدن غربی چه نسبتی برقرار می‌نماید ازجمله مواردی است که می‌تواند موضوع تحقیق باشد. همچنین در بحث از تحولات علمی و اجتماعی در تاریخ بشر معمولاً سه دورة یونان، قرون وسطی، و عصر جدید به‌منزلة شاخص و مبنا قرار می‌گیرد؛ در حالی که این تقسیم‌بندی تاریخی بیش‌تر تاریخ علمی و اجتماعی اروپا و مغرب‌زمین را شامل می‌شود. در این مقاله به بحث از دوره‌بندی علمی و اعتلا و انحطاط تمدن اسلامی در ابعاد مختلف طی پنج تحول بزرگ تاریخی می‌پردازیم. از این پنج دوره، دو دوره انحطاط و سه دوره اعتلا را می‌توان پژوهش کرد. امروز ما در سومین دورة اعتلا و پنجمین فراز از تحول تمدن اسلامی قرار داریم. این مهم می‌تواند در نسبت با تاریخ تمدن غرب و تحولات آن در نگاهی تطبیقی و نقدگونه، نگاهی جامع در هر دو حوزة تمدنی به ما ارزانی دارد. https://occidentstudy.ihcs.ac.ir/article_695_e4bb4c5173c2ce17fd8fcd40041c068f.pdf
